Detailed world-building and imagery are fairly easy for me, perhaps because I wrote a descriptive diary much of my life. I will still endlessly edit these book passages. I work hardest on keeping a fast pace without sacrificing too much detail. I cut out almost a third of my Storm Pearls chapter to pick up the pace. I try to consider every sentence. Is it interesting? Does it slow the pace more than it adds value to the story? Can it be re-written to help the story? If not, the sentence is deleted. I've worked hard on that sentence, but in the end it was only useful as practice.
I was asked this question last night at my Oglethorpe County Library book signing for The Dragon Dreamer. This was a very welcoming group, and they asked many good questions!
